May 7, 2024 Nominating Committee


According to the Constitution and ByLaws, Article IX, Section 3, "This committee coordinates the staffing of all church leadership positions that are filled by volunteers.  The nominating committee recommends persons for all volunteer positions to be elected by the church.  After recommendations from the nominating committee, the floor shall be opened for other nominations for the position(s) to be filled.  Upon election all program directors shall become nonvoting members of this committee."  

Nominating Committee:  Chair: Belinda Catingub; Members:  Don, Linda, David.

I. The nominating committee shall look and confirm volunteers for the following: 

  1. Youth Ministry
  2. Treasurer
  3. Trustees
  4. WMU and Women's Ministry
II. Steps to Take 
  1. Committee meets to identify the need and job description
  2. Committee goes to a season of prayer
  3. Committee identifies a volunteer, interviews and present them to the body
  4. Upon approval, the ministry volunteer are trained for the following
    1. Constitution and By Laws
    2. Ministry practice and finance
    3. Sexual abuse training based on hpbc suggestion 
  5. The ministry worker will have continuous training on...
    1. Theology
    2. Ministry / Shepherding

II.  Ministry Position explained:  

  • Youth Ministry coordinator - This person shall oversee the evangelism and discipleship among young people and as a ministry leader and coordinator, is authorized by the church to disburse ministry funds for the purpose of the ministry in accordance to the financial policies of the church.   He shall be apart of a youth committee as described in Art. IX, Section 18.  The committee shall comprise 5-7 members.      
  • Missions Committee - with the recent accident that happened with the Missions Committee Chair, the committee will be encouraged by the nomination to elect an assistant.  
  • New Treasurer.  The current treasurer has given his resignation notice in the last business meeting (March, 2024).  He has been serving over a decade and FBC of Wahiawa is grateful for the years of his service.   According to Article VIII, Section 6, the Treasurer is an offer and "shall be elected annually.  It shall be the responsibility of the treasurer to oversee the disbursement of all money or things of value paid or given to the church.  The treasurer shall see that vouchers are approved and signed by authorized personnel and shall work with the financial secretary to present an itemized report of receipts and disbursements for the preceding month at each regular business meeting.   The treasurer shall render to the church at each regular business meeting an itemized report of the receipts and disbursements for the preceding month.  The financial record shall be audited annually by an auditor recommended by the Stewardship Committee.   
  • Trustees.   In the recent council meeting (May, 2024), a concern that a disillusionment clause was not present in the Constitution and By-Laws.  To address this concern, the pastor has encouraged the nomination committee to fill the position of Trustees.  According to Article VIII, Section 8, Trustees are a members of three "elected by the church" and "will hold in trust the church property.  They shall have no power to buy, sell, mortgage, lease or transfer any property without a specific vote of the church authorizing such action.  It shall be the function of the trustees to affix their signatures to legal documents involving the sale, mortgage, purchase, rental of property or other legal transactions where the signatures of trustees are required.  Trustees will serve for three (3) years on a rotating basis, one (1) trustee being elected every year." 
  • WMU and Women's Ministry.  The nominating committee is encouraged to seek for a coordinator for WMU and Women's Ministry.   According to Article X, Section 4, "There shall be a Woman's Missionary Union with such officers and organization as needed.  The tasks of the WMU shall be to:  A. Teach missions; B. Engage in Mission Action and personal witnessing; C. Pray for and give to missions; D. Develop spiritually toward a mission's lifestyle; E.  Interpret and undergird the work of the church and denomination.
